Vienna, Austria, February 17, 2020: Nagarro, a global leader in software engineering and technology solutions, bagged the IT business award for its innovative project on AR solution for ÖBB Postbus, Austria’s largest bus company.
Nagarro won the award in the 'Workplace and Organization' category, for its Assisted Reality Smart Glass solution, developed together with ÖBB Postbus. The project was awarded as a trend-setter for repair scenarios in a garage. The solution involved digitalization of processes that made work easier for people and provided economic benefit to the company.
“This is already our second award for this Postbus lighthouse project. We put a lot of energy and effort into the last two years, together with our partner Nagarro. The significant business impact, and last but not the least, the great recognition we get internally and externally encourages us to proceed in implementing new concepts and technologies also in the future,” said Ewald Koller, Head of Technology at ÖBB Postbus.
The eAward
Since May 2019, ÖBB Postbus has leveraged Smart Glasses (with Assisted Reality function) for conducting the technical acceptance of the buses - up to 280 vehicles per year. The buses are inspected by technicians using voice control, and defects are recorded via audio, photos or videos. The acceptance reports are created at the push of a button, based on the recorded information. The defects recorded via audio are automatically transcribed into text form. This digital acceptance process results in significant time savings, increased efficiency, and more accuracy.
Last year, Postbus also received the TUEV Austria Science Award, in the category 'Company', for this Smart Glass project with Nagarro. Postbus made it to the top three shortlisted organizations out of more than 80 submissions by using Smart Glasses for technical bus inspection and finally left the field as a winner. The project prevailed over companies like Porr Bau GmbH and W&W Kreisel GmbH. Numerous employees worked together with development partner Nagarro on the Smart Glasses solution and after a few tests, in May 2019, they were ready for regular use at Postbus.

Postbus: Mobility partner in rural areas
Every year, ÖBB Postbus with its 2,300 buses takes around 208 million passengers to their destinations and also travels to places where there are no other public transport connections. The buses travel daily in around 1,800 communities, providing public transport in rural areas. As the largest bus company in Austria, Postbus is taking responsibility for future generations and is planning to switch to climate-friendly engines in the long term. ÖBB Postbus is the only bus company in Austria to have already implemented pilot projects in the field of e-mobility and hydrogen propulsion.
