Kehl and Offenburg universities to jointly train specialists in ‘Digital Public Management’ from winter semester 2025-26.
Munich, August 2, 2024: Nagarro, a global digital engineering leader, along with the universities of Kehl and Offenburg have developed an innovative new bachelor's degree course, ‘Digital Public Management’, that combines the fields of public management, digitalization, and innovation. The course, starting in the winter semester of 2025-26, reflects the growing need for digital services in the field of public administration.
Digital engineering group finances endowed professorship
Nagarro gives ideas for the course design from a technical and economic perspective, and provides concrete, practical use cases as examples. The company also finances an endowed professorship for the course.
“Science and business must not exist in parallel but must absorb each other's impulses. We want to promote a pioneering spirit and innovation in public administration,” says Michael Schmidt, Managing Director at Nagarro, explaining the company's commitment. Michael Schmidt is also a member of the appointment committee.
“Universities are innovation partners for companies and the public sector. Digital technologies offer public administration great potential for greater service orientation. With this program, we want to promote a new generation of employees who bring with them a deep knowledge and understanding of digital tools, processes and possibilities,” adds Prof. Dr. Stephan Trahasch, Rector of Offenburg University of Applied Sciences.
“The universities in Kehl and Offenburg complement each other wonderfully in terms of their thematic expertise. This complementary degree program will combine the best of the worlds of technology and administration. Ortenau is lucky to have two such innovative universities,” adds Prof. Dr. Joachim Beck, Rector of Kehl University of Applied Sciences.
Closely combining theory and practice
The new course is dynamic as well as practical. One of the core skills that students acquire is the ability to carry out project work using modern methods and to combine administrative processes, systems and IT. As solution architects, they can actively and successfully shape and moderate change processes. In addition to knowledge of digitalization and administration, the course also delves into change management, user experience and innovation management.
Through projects with companies and administrations, students learn to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Internationalization is also an important part of the course.
Diverse career opportunities
Graduates of the ‘Digital Public Management’ course will be change agents for the modernization of culture, working methods, and organization in administration. They can pursue careers as consulting service providers in the field of IT and digitalization for public administration as well as in municipalities, government data centers, and in product development organizations. Equipped with the necessary digitalization skills and an understanding of public administration and its special features, they will be able to develop and implement tailor-made offers for consulting projects for the digitalization of the administrative world. These projects can range from an implementation of a complex digital application or a digital document management system to digital business process optimization or more complex e-government solutions.
