New Delhi, December 4, 2023 – Nagarro announced that it has signed up for the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi is an important collaboration between the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Nagarro has committed to setting a near-term decarbonization target and achieving net zero no later than 2050.
“This is an important step in the right direction for us. Over the last year, we have put significant effort into measuring our carbon footprint over scopes 1, 2, and 3. With a good view of our carbon landscape, we are better prepared to work on the target-setting process. The scientific rigor that SBTi brings to corporate decarbonization is needed for effective decision-making towards climate action,” said Ashish Agrawal, custodian of sustainability at Nagarro.
Over 2,000 organizations worldwide are leading the transition to a net-zero economy by setting emission reduction targets grounded in climate science through the SBTi. Science-based targets show companies and financial institutions how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
The SBTi commitment is among several other steps to strengthen sustainability at Nagarro. “In sync with our lean philosophy, we are committed to eliminating waste through humanistic design, education, and empowerment. We have identified levers such as efficient cloud operations, extended life of IT hardware, no single-use plastic, and reduced air conditioning use as high-impact opportunities for decarbonization and holistic sustainability improvement. We will measure their success, scale these levers globally, and tweak them while introducing new ones in our fight against the climate crisis,” Ashish added.
Earlier this year, Nagarro launched an awareness campaign on designing and developing eco-friendly software for its 19,000 Nagarrians globally. Nagarro also continues to incorporate measures across environmental, social, and governance tracks to ensure a safe and secure working environment for employees while minimizing the negative impacts of resource consumption.
