Building a data-driven enterprise with data fabric architecture

A unified data platform and governed environment to maximize data value.

The client has various data sources comprising sales data (wholesale, retail & e-commerce), master data (product, customer,) and POS data from numerous retailers for each brand. The data is then collected, transformed, and fed into brand-specific data platforms. These data platforms have their unique technology stacks, on-premise and cloud. The client sought to eliminate the need to ingest data several times for different use cases and individual system representations of the same data by bringing in a centralized data governance framework with a certification process and governed cataloging.
There was also a need to ensure data availability to users and business applications in preferred formats and in a secured and governed manner without needing to understand the data source or underlying technology.

solution

We applied our ‘thinking breakthroughs’ approach and consulted with the client to implement a data fabric solution to manage the collection, integration, and governance of data under a unified environment. The implementation included a governed data virtualization layer that became a single source of truth for all the data consumers (business applications, data analysts/scientists, and business users). They could use this data layer to obtain critical data elements, reducing the effort to pull from different sources. Direct access to data in an easy-to-use and secure environment empowered users with self-service capabilities.
We also created a centralized data governance framework that enables data accessibility, discovery and business definitions for critical data elements. And data trust and compliance through data cataloging, metadata management, data quality, and data security.

outcome

A highly scalable data fabric that can handle increasing data volumes and add new data sources and applications without impacting the existing deployments. The implementation removed data silos and provided a single source of reliable data for real-time data analysis. It significantly decreased the time to bring new data points into analysis through virtualization, reducing the development cost.
Implementing the data fabric improved operational efficiency with an 80% improvement in data processing and a similar gain in business intelligence reports performance. The client witnessed a quicker time to market. Our ‘thinking breakthroughs’ approach helped turn a single project into a continuing partnership with the client involving multiple projects.
