Hitachi Astemo’s goal was to monetize in-car data through new business models. They wanted to leverage the intelligence derived from the data for advanced driver assistance. To achieve this goal, they conceptualized a cloud-based data management platform that offers multiple connected services by capturing real-time on-road information such as weather intelligence, pothole, and debris information and distributing geo-location-based data insights among subscribers and partners.

solution

Nagarro developed a cloud-based (AWS) solution that uses cameras and in-vehicle sensors to capture rule-based information and distribute it to the subscriber’s vehicles. The in-vehicle component of the solution processes these rules by executing AI algorithms to get data-driven insights. The team observed all the DevOps principles and followed a serverless architecture, using different AWS services like AWS Greengrass, AWS IoT Core, AWS Lambda, Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, AWS STS, Amazon CloudWatch, AWS CDK. For accident reconstruction, the app takes vehicle telemetry data, and accident videos from the vehicles in and around the accident spot analyzes this data and shares it with insurance partners for faster claim settlement.

The solution made real-time and hyper-local weather, potholes, debris, and accident-related updates available through data-driven insights ensuring increased driver safety and comfort.  The platform also contributed toward better road infrastructure by providing data on potholes and debris. HA estimates that the intelligence on potholes would help cut down road accidents by 10%, and this data, when shared with the municipal bodies, would expedite infrastructure improvement and help reduce the time taken to mend potholes. The accident reconstruction use case enables partner insurance companies to settle insurance claims 15% faster by correctly assigning the liability.
