Cloud-to-cloud migration with less maintenance and admin work

Unlike JCMA, the cloud-to-cloud migration tool, still in its Beta version presented several challenges. The task of data migration given the stringent timelines and considering large number of plugins and the volume of data in the instance, was challenging. The migration of the plugin data required the use of many third-party tools and their support. The sluggishness in migrating attachments was a major challenge to complete the migration within a single weekend window.

the solution
Based on our findings, we proposed a solution for both the phases and performed instance cleanup and standardization to make instances ready for migration. Nagarro’s cloud migration team also devised a strategy for plugin data migration, which is a limitation of the cloud-to-cloud migration tool with plugin vendors and third-party tool vendor. We performed some test migrations to ensure data integrity. A detailed migration runbook was then prepared, followed by a carefully planned weekend production migration to fit it into a given time.

the outcome
Nagarro successfully migrated over 200 projects post clean-up, ~350 global spaces, ~400 personal spaces, 900+ users, ~600 GB data, and 10+ plugins for both the phases combined, all within the agreed timelines. This transition has significantly reduced maintenance and administration overhead, resulting in cost savings on licenses. Most importantly, these migrations were executed seamlessly, without impacting end-user experience and business operations, with no post-migration incidents.
